After months of qualifying, it’s time for the party to start! Join the Mid-America Throwdown as we invade Hamilton, OH to setup one of the most epic tracks you’re likely to race on this year. Do you have what it takes to be crowned as the Mid-America Throwdown Champion? We hope to see you there!

Venue

The Championship event will take place at the HAWKS RC field in Hamilton, OH. Address: 252 Joe Nuxhall Way Hamilton, OH 45014

HAWKS RC is an AMA registered field, and all pilots in attendance are required to have AMA or MAC membership and provide their membership number prior to flying in the event.

Track

The Championship track will be a 100% new custom track built using 7’x6′ “championship” sized gates. The Mid-America Throwdown series goal is to provide a championship caliber track providing a unique FPV racing experience that is difficult for pilots to duplicate on their own. These are the tracks that pilots aspire to have the chance to race on.

The track will be kept a secret until the day of the race. This will keep all participants on an even playing field. There will be no preset measurements or layouts of track elements which will also help expedite setup time. What is known is that the track should be compromised of 12-16 ground gates, 8 elevated gates and 1 dive gate. In addition to the gates, there will be up to 20 flags placed along the course. It’ll be a BIG track!

Format

This championship will be broken into 2 stages. Qualifying and Mains. There will be no practice rounds provided to pilots, instead every round on the first day will count towards qualifying. The qualifying format will be the fastest 3 consecutive laps performed on the track from any round.

For qualifying, pilots will be flying 8-up (8 pilots flying at a time, flying on Raceband channels). Pilots will check-in before their heat with a tablet scanning system. Pilots will need to line up on their channel to be added to a future race. Pilots will have the total number of qualifying rounds capped to ensure all pilots receive equal opportunities to qualify. At this time, we expect at least 10 rounds of qualifying, but schedule permitting we hope for more.

For the Sunday brackets. Every pilot advancing to a bracket will receive 2 practice batteries prior to his or her bracket. Sport class pilots will compete in a double elimination bracket of 24 pilots, with 6 pilots racing in each heat. The top 3 pilots from each heat will advance as the winners of that heat. The final round of the bracket will be a chase the ace race. This means that the first pilot to win 2 races will be the sport class champion. If the top sport class qualifier places first in all heats leading up to the final race, they will be designated an Ironman, and if he or she wins the first race the winner will be crowned.

For the Pro class bracket the top 8 qualifiers will receive a first round bye. The bracket will then consist of 4-up racing in a double elimination bracket where the top 2 pilots of each heat advance as the winners, ultimately leading to a chase the ace final. As with the sport class bracket, if the event top qualifier places 1st in all heats leading up to the final, he or she will be designated the ironman, and he or she will be crowned the champion if he or she wins the first finals race.
